The Lahore Qalandars may have faced defeat in their recent HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Multan Sultans, but their mascot Basheera emerged as the unexpected star of the show, winning over the hearts of cricket fans in Multan.

In a light-hearted Instagram post shared by the official Lahore Qalandars account, the franchise celebrated their mascot’s popularity with the caption: “Match chahay na jeeta ho, Basheera nay Multan ka dil zaroor jeet liya!” (Even if we didn’t win the match, Basheera definitely won Multan’s heart!).

The accompanying video shows Basheera, the beloved Qalandars mascot, engaging in playful antics.

Match Details

The recent clash between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars ended with the home team Multan Sultans securing a 33-run victory. According to a previous post from the Lahore Qalandars, “Not our day! But we will bounce back! Multan Sultans take the game by 33 runs.”

Despite the on-field disappointment, the Qalandars maintained a positive spirit, focusing on the entertainment value their team brings to the league beyond just cricket performance.

Qalandars’ Journey In PSL 10

The Lahore Qalandars are competing in their tenth season of the HBL Pakistan Super League. The team unveiled their official jersey for PSL 10 earlier this year with great fanfare, asking fans, “Do you like it?” in their social media promotion.

Following the match in Multan, the team posted, “Thank you, Multan,” along with a green heart emoji, encouraging fans to “Keep loving and supporting the HBL PSL by filling the stadium.” This shows the team’s appreciation for the crowd support despite playing away from home.

The Qalandars then returned to their home base with another post declaring, “Touchdown Lahore. No place like home,” indicating their journey back after the away fixture.

About Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars is one of the six founding teams of the Pakistan Super League, representing the city of Lahore, Punjab. According to their Wikipedia profile, the franchise is owned by Qatar Lubricants Company Limited (QALCO).

The team has had a mixed history in the PSL, but notably won consecutive championships in 2022 and 2023, establishing themselves as a formidable force in the league. Their recent title defenses have made them one of the most successful franchises in PSL history.

For PSL 10, the Qalandars assembled a competitive squad through the draft process, proudly announcing their “full squad after the Draft!” earlier this year.

Mascot Culture In PSL

Mascots like Basheera have become an integral part of the PSL experience, providing entertainment beyond the cricket action and helping to build team identity. These characters engage with fans, particularly children, and create memorable moments during matches.

The friendly interaction between mascots of competing teams highlights the sporting spirit of the league, where rivalry on the field is balanced with camaraderie off it.

As the Lahore Qalandars continue their PSL 10 campaign, they’ll be hoping to translate the popularity of their mascot into on-field success. Until then, Basheera continues to serve as a charming ambassador for the team, winning hearts across Pakistan even when match results don’t go their way.
