The second installment of the SA U19 Women’s national training camp is ongoing at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Centre of Excellence in Tshwane, building on momentum from previous camps as part of talent development initiatives.

The four-day camp, running from April 25-28, represents continued collaborative efforts between Cricket South Africa and SA20 to nurture emerging female cricket talent ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027.

Promising Talent Takes Center Stage

A squad of 24 players within the U19 age group has been assembled for the camp, including notable talent Six Gun Grill Western Province wicketkeeper-batter Jae-Leigh Filander. Filander was part of the Junior Proteas side that earned silver at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 in Malaysia.

Building On SA20’S Development Initiatives

This partnership between SA20 and Cricket South Africa demonstrates the league’s commitment to developing cricket at all levels in South Africa. The SA20, established in 2023, has quickly become South Africa’s premier T20 cricket league featuring six franchise teams: Durban’s Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Beyond the glitz of the main league, SA20 has been actively involved in development programs, with this U19 Women’s camp being one of several initiatives aimed at strengthening the cricket pipeline in the country.

Preparing For Future World Stage

With the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027 on the horizon, this camp provides crucial preparation time for potential squad members. The previous Junior Proteas squad’s silver medal performance in Malaysia demonstrates South Africa’s emerging strength in women’s cricket, which these development camps aim to further enhance.

The training at the CSA Centre of Excellence focuses on technical skills, tactical awareness, and mental preparation—all essential components for success at the international level.

Commitment To Women’s Cricket Development

This camp reflects the growing investment in women’s cricket in South Africa, following global trends of increased support for the women’s game. By identifying talent early and providing structured development pathways, CSA and SA20 are ensuring a sustainable future for women’s cricket in the country.

The partnership between SA20 and CSA for these development initiatives shows how commercial T20 leagues can positively impact the broader cricket ecosystem when aligned with national cricket objectives.

SA20 has been showcasing various aspects of cricket talent through its social media platforms recently, highlighting players like Trent Boult, Aiden Markram, and Dewald Brevis. They’ve celebrated impressive catches from Season 3 and shared stories of cricket personalities like “Uncle Roy” from Kingsmead, demonstrating the league’s commitment to promoting cricket culture alongside player development.

As cricket continues to evolve globally, initiatives like this U19 Women’s camp represent important investments in the future of the sport in South Africa, ensuring that the next generation of female cricketers receives the support and development opportunities needed to succeed on the world stage.
