From Player To Mentor: Vanitha’s Cricket Journey

Vellaswamy Vanitha, known widely as Vanitha VR, has established herself as a significant figure in Indian women’s cricket. The right-handed batter represented India in six ODIs and 16 T20Is between 2014 and 2016, bringing her wealth of experience to coaching and mentoring roles following her playing career.

Her transition from player to cricket mentor has been seamless, with Vanitha taking on multiple significant roles in recent years. She has been heavily involved with RAM Sports Club, regularly sharing updates about training sessions and cricket development activities.

Her association with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been particularly notable. She served as a scout for RCB’s men’s team before extending her expertise to the women’s setup when the Women’s Premier League (WPL) began, taking on dual roles as scout and fielding coach.

Outside of her coaching responsibilities, Vanitha has established herself as a cricket commentator, using her extensive knowledge and experience to provide insights during broadcasts.

Dedicated To Cricket Development

Vanitha’s commitment to developing cricket skills is evident through her consistent social media updates about training sessions at RAM Sports Club.  The philosophy of building foundational skills early reflects her approach to coaching young cricketers, focusing not just on technical abilities but also on developing confidence and overcoming fear – essential attributes for success in the sport.

The successful completion of the first batch at RAM Sports Club represents Vanitha’s ongoing contribution to cricket development in India. By working directly with young players, she’s helping to create pathways for the next generation of cricketers, passing on not just technical skills but also the mental aspects of the game that come from her years of international experience.
