India’s express pace bowler Umran Malik has expressed gratitude to the BCCI Centre of Excellence and former Indian batting legend VVS Laxman for supporting him through his rehabilitation phase. The Jammu & Kashmir speedster, known for his ability to consistently bowl at speeds exceeding 150 kmph, shared an update on his recovery journey through social media.

In the Instagram post, Malik is seen at what appears to be the ground of the rehabilitation facility, looking fit and ready to return to cricket action. The image shows him in casual attire, suggesting he has completed a significant phase of his recovery process.

Back On Track: Malik’s Rehabilitation Journey

“Up and standing tall!” Malik wrote in his Instagram post, indicating his progress in the recovery process. He specifically thanked the BCCI Centre of Excellence and VVS Laxman, who currently serves as the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), for their “constant support” throughout his rehabilitation phase.

“The facility, the care, and the belief you showed in me made all the difference,” Malik acknowledged in his message to Laxman and the BCCI team.

The fast bowler also expressed special appreciation for his rehabilitation team members. He thanked “Thulasi Sir” for his “relentless effort” and “healing hands,” noting how his patience and humor helped Malik get through the toughest days of recovery.

Malik reserved particular praise for fitness trainer Nishanta, describing him as “not just one of the best fitness trainers in the country” but also “one of the kindest souls” he has met. “Thank you for lifting me up not just with my physical preparation but also when I was mentally down. Your encouragement meant everything,” Malik wrote, highlighting the mental aspect of rehabilitation that athletes often face.

Set To Join KKR For IPL Comeback

This update comes shortly after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announced that Malik had joined their squad in Kolkata to continue his rehab and “return to cricket” program for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. As per KKR’s official statement, while Malik isn’t joining as an official playing member, he will work with the team and support staff to get back to his best form.

From Jammu To International Cricket

Born on November 22, 1999, in Jammu, Umran Malik rose to prominence during the 2021 and 2022 IPL seasons with Sunrisers Hyderabad. His ability to consistently bowl at an extreme pace caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide, earning him a reputation as one of the fastest bowlers in India.

Malik made his international debut for India in a T20I match against Ireland on 26th June, 2022, and later debuted in ODIs against New Zealand on  25th November the same year. His express pace has been his standout quality, with the speedster having recorded deliveries over 155 kmph in competitive cricket.

The Road Ahead For The Speed Merchant

Malik’s rehabilitation and association with KKR signal a positive development in his career trajectory. With the IPL 2025 season underway, Malik will be looking to gain valuable insights working with KKR’s coaching staff, which includes former India pacer Sreesanth and bowling coach Bharat Arun.

While fans will have to wait to see Malik in action on the field, this rehabilitation phase appears to be crucial in ensuring his long-term fitness and career longevity. For a bowler whose primary asset is raw pace, proper physical conditioning and technical refinement during this recovery period will be essential.

The cricket fraternity will be eagerly awaiting Malik’s return to competitive cricket, hoping to see the speedster unleash his thunderbolts once again. With proper guidance from KKR and having completed his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, Malik appears to be on the right track for a successful comeback.
