Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has praised the Gujarat Titans’ top-order batting lineup for their exceptional performance in a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
In his Instagram post, Pathan highlighted what he called “Unreal consistency from top 3 GT,” indicating the impressive batting display from the batsmen Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler. He also pointedly mentioned in the caption, “KKR can’t complain abt the pitch tonight,” suggesting that the playing conditions couldn’t be used as an excuse for the Kolkata team’s performance.
Gujarat Titans’ Batting Powerhouse
The Gujarat Titans have established themselves as a formidable team in the IPL since their debut in the 2022 season. Their top-order batting has been particularly noteworthy this season, with consistent performances helping them maintain their competitive edge in the tournament.
The video in Pathan’s post highlights the remarkable form and performances of GT’s top-order batsmen against KKR’s top four bowlers. He credits Jos Butler for showing signs of a great player by modifying his gameplay according to the situation when he came into the powerplay during the 13th over. He shows appreciation for Sai Sudharsan’s unreal consistency in achieving eight half-centuries in the last twelve innings. Pathan also remarks on Shubman Gill’s climbing strike rate and innings graph, along with his excellent fast-paced game that challenged the KKR bowlers’ every strategic move while fetching ninety much-needed runs for GT in the game.
This level of consistency from these players in batting performance is especially valuable in T20 cricket, where early wickets can significantly impact a team’s chances of posting competitive totals or successful chasing targets.
KKR’s Pitch Complaints Nullified
Commenting on KKR’s pitch complaints, Pathan says, “Dekhiye pitch mein grip tha. So, KKR toh complaint nahi kar sakti ki bhai pitch mein kuch nahi tha. Ball turn ho raha tha humne dekha, Rashid ke saamne, humne dekha Sai Kishore ke saamne, kis tarah se unki gend turn kar rahi thi.” (The pitch was clearly gripping the ball. So, KKR cannot complain that the pitch was challenging or useless. The ball was quite visibly turning in front of Rashid and Sai Kishore.)
His comment about the Kolkata Knght Riders not being able to complain about the pitch is suggestive of previous instances where the Kolkata team attributed their performance to challenging pitch conditions. Pathan’s observation indicates that the pitch for this particular match offered fair playing conditions, thus implying that the pitch was not a factor in KKR’s performance in this match.
Thus, as the IPL 2025 season progresses, GT’s batting lineup will be looking to maintain the consistency that Pathan has highlighted, while KKR will need to find ways to improve their performance regardless of pitch conditions.
