Indian cricketer Mandeep Singh is already missing his Punjabi commentary colleagues after wrapping up what appears to be a successful debut stint behind the microphone during the IPL 2025 season.

The Punjab Kings batsman took to Instagram to share his sentiments, posting photos with his commentary team and expressing his gratitude for making his first Punjabi commentary experience memorable.

Nostalgic Tribute To Commentary Teammates

“Missing my PUNJABI COMMENTARY CREW already ❤️,” Mandeep wrote in his Instagram post. The image shows him posing with what appears to be his fellow commentators, all smiling and dressed professionally for their broadcasting duties.

The cricketer-turned-commentator added, “A big thanks to these guys for making my first ever PUNJABI commentary STINT a memorable one 🙏🏽🤗.”

Mandeep also assured fans that this wouldn’t be his last time in the Punjabi commentary box, writing, “Jald milange dobara Punjabi commentary ch🎙️🙌🏽” (We’ll meet again soon in Punjabi commentary).

He concluded his post by thanking fans for their support: “Baki tusi pyar dende raho eda hi bhar bhar k ✨” (Keep showering your love abundantly).

Punjabi Commentary: Connecting With Regional Audiences

The IPL has been expanding its regional language coverage in recent years, with Punjabi commentary gaining popularity among viewers from Punjab and the Punjabi-speaking diaspora worldwide. Jio Star, the official broadcaster, has been offering commentary in multiple languages to cater to India’s diverse linguistic audience.

Earlier in April, Mandeep had announced his Punjabi commentary debut with a post inviting viewers to tune in. “ਪੰਜਾਬੀ commentary 🙏🎙️🏏 @jiohotstar te.. Milde han ji shamji 6.30 vje.. ਸਿੱਧਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰਣ…😎” (Punjabi commentary on Jio Hotstar.. Meet at 6:30 in the evening.. Live broadcast).

The regional commentary teams often include former players who bring their on-field experience and regional connection to make the game more accessible and enjoyable for local language audiences.

Mandeep’s Cricket Journey

Mandeep Singh is a right-handed batsman who has represented India in T20 internationals. Born on December 18, 1991, in Jalandhar, Punjab, he has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket, particularly for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy.

Mandeep has been part of the IPL since its early years, playing for teams including Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and Delhi Capitals. Known for his aggressive batting style, he has contributed significantly to Punjab’s domestic success over the years.

In March 2024, Mandeep shared an Instagram post celebrating his consistency in domestic cricket, featuring what appeared to be his Ranji Trophy performance statistics with the caption: “Consistency 👏🏽👏🏽.”

Passion For Cricket Development

Beyond playing and commentary, Mandeep has shown dedication to cricket development. He runs the Not Out Cricket Academy in Jalandhar, which offers training facilities including high-quality wickets and hostel accommodation for aspiring cricketers.

In a recent Instagram post about his academy, he wrote, “Join Not Out Cricket Academy in Jalandhar! 🏏 📞 Contact: 85448-01582 🏠 Hostel Available 💪 Top-Quality Wickets.”

The cricketer has also been sharing batting tips and training routines on his social media and YouTube channel, focusing on skills like power hitting—evidence of his commitment to sharing his expertise with the next generation of cricketers.

Punjabi Commentary Highlights

During his commentary stint, Mandeep appears to have covered several exciting matches, including the Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore game, which featured Virat Kohli’s masterclass in chasing.

Following that match, Mandeep had posted: “Another MASTER CLASS while CHASING by 👑 KOHLI 👏🏽. Changa nhi lgya aaj PUNJAB match haar gya but DELHI de PUNJABI munde ne ek vaar fer ton DIL jit lya 👌🏽👌🏽” (Didn’t feel good today as Punjab lost the match but the Punjabi boy from Delhi won hearts once again).

The regional commentary team also had special moments with Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan, who made an appearance in the Punjabi commentary box, bringing his characteristic energy and charm to the broadcast.

As IPL 2025 progresses toward its conclusion, Mandeep’s successful foray into Punjabi commentary represents the growing importance of regional language broadcasts in making cricket more accessible and engaging for fans across India’s diverse linguistic landscape.
