Trinidad and Tobago cricket star Dwayne Bravo has made a powerful statement about his political stance ahead of the country’s upcoming elections, emphasizing that his loyalty to the nation transcends party politics.
Representing Trinidad For Over Two Decades
“Yuh see this flag? It means everything to me! Representing Trinidad and Tobago for over 22 years has been one of the greatest accomplishments of my life,” Bravo wrote in his emotional message. The cricketer, who has proudly carried his nation’s flag in sporting events, cultural activities, and community work, explained that his dedication to his homeland remains unwavering.
The post features an image of Bravo holding the Trinidad and Tobago flag, symbolizing his deep connection to his country.
Addressing Political Affiliations
With Trinidad and Tobago’s elections approaching, Bravo chose to address speculation about his political stance head-on. “Yes, those who truly know me, know I support yellow,” he confirmed, referring to the United National Congress (UNC) party, which uses yellow as its identifying color. However, he emphasized that his support for a particular party doesn’t diminish his commitment to the country if the People’s National Movement (PNM), represented by the color red, remains in power.
“But that doesn’t mean that if red is in power, I’ll stop showing up for my people, raising awareness, or continuing the work I’ve consistently done – even under the current administration,” the cricket star clarified.
Unity Over Division
In his post, Bravo made it clear that he has never positioned himself as a political figure. “I’ve never been about party politics. I’ve never been a political figure. I stand for the people,” he declared. His message focused on the importance of national unity, progress, and pride rather than divisive politics.
“Red or yellow, my commitment to uplifting, inspiring, and giving back to Trinidad and Tobago remains unchanged,” Bravo affirmed. He noted that despite political differences, all citizens share a common goal: “a better, safer, stronger future for our country.”
The cricketer encouraged his followers to vote responsibly while maintaining respect and hope during the electoral process. “Let’s vote for leaders who will do right by the people, and let’s continue doing our part as citizens to build a better T&T together,” he urged.
A Champion For His Nation
Bravo, often referred to as “Sir Champion,” has represented Trinidad and Tobago in international cricket for over two decades. Beyond his sporting achievements, he has established himself as a cultural ambassador and community leader.
Dwayne Bravo is a former captain of the West Indies cricket team and is widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in T20 cricket history. Born on October 7, 1983, he has represented the West Indies in all formats of the game and has been a key player in various T20 leagues worldwide, including the Indian Premier League.
In recent months, Bravo has been actively involved with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, as evidenced by his recent social media posts showcasing his work with the team. One post captioned “Work in progress” showed him alongside teammate Vaibhav Arora, while another celebrated KKR’s bowling unit’s performance.
As Trinidad and Tobago head to the polls on Monday, Bravo’s message reflects his maturity as both a sportsman and a citizen. “Yes, yellow may be the code I identify with – but my heart, loyalty, and prayers are for all the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” he concluded, ending with a powerful reminder: “Unity over division. Always.”
