Bangladesh ended Day 3 of the first Test against Zimbabwe in a commanding position, reaching 194/4 in their second innings and establishing a lead of 112 runs heading into the fourth day of play.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto played a key role with a well-constructed half-century, helping the hosts recover after early wickets. Starting the day at 57/1 and trailing by 25 runs, Bangladesh steadily built their innings through the morning and afternoon sessions, reaching 155/4 by tea.

The final session saw the team add 39 more runs without losing any further wickets, taking their lead into three figures and putting them in a strong position.

Bangladesh’s advantage was set up by Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s five-wicket haul on Day 2. The off-spinner returned figures of 5/52 from 20.2 overs, helping bowl out Zimbabwe and limit their lead to 82.

With six wickets in hand and a lead of 112, Bangladesh will aim to bat through a session on Day 4 to post a strong target. Miraz’s performance with the ball gives them confidence heading into the final stages of the match.

This Test is a chance for Bangladesh to continue building their presence in the longest format. After years of limited-overs focus, consistent home performances in series like this one could be key to their growth in the World Test Championship.

Historically more competitive in limited-overs cricket, Bangladesh has been working to establish themselves as a more formidable Test nation. Home series like this one against Zimbabwe provide crucial opportunities to build confidence and ranking points in the World Test Championship.

Day 4 promises more engaging cricket as the Tigers look to press for a 1-0 series lead.
